The people best placed to say whether an ECMO simulator earns its place are the clinicians running the programme it sits in. Over the past two years we have filmed nine of them: ECMO directors, consultant intensivists, paediatric cardiac anaesthetists and principal perfusionists, at hospitals across the United Kingdom, Italy, Portugal and Spain.
We did not script them and we have not cut them down. Each interview runs in full below, between five and twelve minutes, because a clinician explaining what changed in their unit is more use to you than a thirty-second clip of them saying something complimentary.
